Hi neighbor,
My name is Kathleen Crogan-Camara. I’m a mom, a registered nurse, a former small business owner, and a proud Democrat. I’m running for State Senate because the status quo is leaving too many families like mine behind, and I will use my unique experience to fight for change.
I’m a longtime resident of our district. I grew up in Stoughton with my three brothers, and now I live in Randolph with my husband and children. My father started his own business from the ground up - a florist shop where my brothers and I learned the value of hard work early on. I followed in his footsteps and put those lessons to work when I started my own beauty salon years later.
I'm no stranger to challenges. I ran my small business for 20 years while raising my three children. It was hard work, but I loved meeting new people and hearing their stories. I believe listening is crucial to any job, from hair styling to politics.

My life was turned upside down very suddenly when my 16-year-old daughter suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. I was suddenly thrust into a world of hospital rooms, tears, bills, and fear. During this time of crisis, I decided to change careers and go into the medical field. That way, I would be able to better care for my daughter and help any other families who had gone through what I had.
I became a CNA, then an LPN, then an RN -- not an easy mid-life career change while still running my salon! I've encountered so many obstacles in getting good care for my daughter. State agencies and state programs were simply not there for us. This difficulty and indifference was one of the main reasons I began to get involved in politics.

I’ve been heavily involved in our local community. I am a member of the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts and the Randolph Disabilities Commission.

I am also a Friend of the Blue Hills and a member of the Randolph Democratic Town Committee. In those roles, I have had the opportunity to get my hands dirty and get back to what I loved doing when I ran my small business: listen to the people. I come from a family which serves our community. Two of my uncles were police officers for the Stoughton Police Department: my uncle Tom Crogan, a lieutenant for 20+ years; my uncle Arthur Crogan, a special permanent police officer for 20+ years. And my grandmother Mary Crogan, known as "Skip", was the first female postal mail carrier.
I believe our government should help people, not ignore them. Unfortunately, the status quo often neglects some of our basic needs. Our healthcare is getting more expensive, the climate crisis is getting worse, and housing costs are displacing so many of our neighbors. Meanwhile, people have more and more difficulty accessing the government departments they’ve paid for with their taxes, whether it’s unreturned calls or inaccessible red tape. More at https://kathleencamara.com/blog/f/vote-yes-in-november-to-audit-the-legislature
I am a union member. I'm a member of the Mass Nurses Association and I support other unions too. My grandfather was a truckdriver and a member of the Teamsters; my grandmother was a local steward in the the Postal Union; I grew up with "union values" versus corporate values -- and I support union values now.

I understand how it feels to be ignored by politics as usual, and I know we can work together to ensure nobody else is left out. I hope to earn your vote on September 3 because I have the experience, and vision, to make a difference for our families.
